A Question of Light
As the nights draw in and the inevitable onset of winter comes into frame, our attention shifts from the great outdoors back to our own home interiors. Colder days and longer evenings offer a great opportunity to focus on creating cosy spaces inside from snug intimate corners rich with textures and moody ambient lighting to light open spaces filled with natural materials and neutral hues.
Lighting plays a key part in any interior and helps set the perfect scene and feeling in a room. A striking free standing light can add consummate style as well as bring welcome light to a dark corner. In contrast a rattan basket light offers a light airy feeling opening up a space. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite styling ideas to help you create an interior space that will bring you pleasure and sanctuary throughout the winter.
Ambient Lighting
To create a cosy ambient space we recommend interior walls are painted in darker shades and dressed with prints and pictures to add colour and definition. Soft furnishings should be tactile and soft with sofas or armchairs upholstered in natural linens in darker colours. Layer these with textured and eclectic cushions and luxuriously soft throws folded over arms.
For warmth and intimacy use a mix of table lamps and down lights. We find LED filament bulbs bring warmth to a room and complement our lighting collections. A single tripod light allows you to focus light, leaving some areas dark and keeping that cosiness and closeness. The roar of a fire and warm glowing embers add the finishing touch and will help you forget the world outside.
Natural Style With the days being that much shorter creating an airy summery feel inside your home can counteract the greyness outside and offer an uplifting interior space. Natural materials such as woods with rich patinas, warm natural rattan and the organic shapes of hand-blown glass lamp bases bring a touch of nature into your home. To create a feeling of space, simple contours and soft lighting works best. Our rattan basket lights act as a gentle screen that you can see through, whilst organic glass shapes again allow light to shine through and reflect.
