We are delighted to introduce a new material for our kitchen collection. The Cassia board has a mango wood handle and incorporates a beautifully smooth, polished slab of sandstone which is sturdy and hardwearing, while looking effortlessly elegant at the same time. This design melds two beautiful natural materials together to form one cohesive design that looks as striking hung on a wall as it does for serving up a cheese board.
Mango wood has a light natural tone with natural variation within the grain. We love working with this material which is a by-product of the mango-growing industry and repurposing it to give it a new lease of life. Once the trees are no longer fruitful, they are taken down and we use them to create many of our pieces.
To care for the sandstone, we recommend washing after every use. Use a mild dish soap and do not leave to soak, sandstone is a porous material and can easily stain. Do not scrub as this may scratch the sandstone. Handle with care to prevent chipping. Due to the nature of the wood, the colour may change over time. To nourish and protect the natural wood rub an edible oil such as olive oil or walnut oil into the surface with a dry cloth. Please note that adding oil may darken the tone of the wood.
