A versatile addition to your home, our Akari rug features a traditional Indian pattern with a warm rust-coloured border. Woven on a handloom utilising natural materials jute and cotton for the perfect blend of comfort and durability. Jute is one of our favourite materials at nkuku; we love it for being completely biodegradable and recyclable, incredibly efficient to grow, and beautifully hardwearing with a smooth finish. Also available in runner size.
How it's made
We choose to work with natural, recycled and reclaimed materials for our pieces. Jute is a great natural material we love to use as it is a rain-fed crop that has little need for fertilisers or pesticides. It is a natural vegetable fibre that can be spun into strong and durable threads. When combined with naturally soft and supple cotton, we’ve found a perfect blend that showcases both durability and comfort. The traditional Indian handloom represents one of India's most ancient crafts, embodying centuries of heritage. Our Akari collection honours this legacy, meticulously woven, braided, and stitched by skilled artisans using age-old techniques. Each piece celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Care instructions
To care for these rugs, clean spills immediately by blotting with clean sponge or cloth. Take care when vacuuming. We do not recommend the use of vacuums with rotating brush as these may damage the rug fibres. Can be professionally cleaned. Colours may fade in direct sunlight. Due to the nature of the materials used, some shedding of fibre is to be expected.
